Dear %%First Name%%,
Naming your business
Overview |
I recommend naming your business for flexibility. Pick a name that can work for your business as it evolves over the years. You can always add an "assumed business name" to better suit a particular project. That's like an alias.
Be very thorough to check that your name isn't already taken or otherwise owned by someone else.

Checklist |
Read course materials on naming a business. |
Post your idea(s) on the bulletin board. There’s a separate forum called “Naming your business.” |
Check that your name is available in your state. |
Check that your name isn’t registered or trademarked. |
Do an Internet search to see if anyone else is using your name. Use quotes for this search. For example, search for “Scott’s New York Deli” with quotes around the whole name. |
Ask people what comes to mind when they hear this name. |
Please print this checklist and post it where you will see it every day. Out-of-sight, out-of-mind. |
